1500 leaflets distributed at Wolverhampton Station for Action for Rail

Campaigners at Wolverhampton railway station getting their message across

20 years ago yesterday, the Act was passed that ushered in the privatisation of our railways. Across the midlands campaigners were up early talking to the travelling public about our concerns for the future of rail - at Birmingham International, Burton on Tent and Wolverhampton (pictured).

Privatisation has failed to deliver on any of its promises. Fares have rocketed, public subsidy more than doubled. Private train companies earn huge returns for minimal investment. We believe there is an alternative, a national integrated, railway under public ownership that puts passengers and taxpayers before rail company profits.

The general public are on our side, this latest YouGov poll shows. And that’s why we had such a fantastic turn out from all our Action for Rail supporters the length and breadth of the country. - See more here
